See Ya, Summer! 👋 Hello, September!

See Ya, Summer! 👋 Hello, September!

September 01, 2024

As the dog days of summer wind down, it’s almost time to fall into our next season! Soon, the air will turn crisp, and the leaves will start changing color, ushering in a new season of opportunities to gather with loved ones and friends. Labor Day falls on September 2nd this year, providing an excuse for one last hurrah of summer over the three-day weekend. September also kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs each year from September 15th to October 15th. This celebration honors both Hispanic and Latino Americans. It recognizes their heritage and the contributions they’ve made in the U.S., both past and present. You can celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month by spending time with your familia and hearing their stories or taking this opportunity to learn more about these rich and diverse cultures.

Apple picking is a favorite pastime this month, as many varieties of apples are ready to harvest. Check out pickyourown.org to find an orchard near you or even find one to make a vacation destination! Many of these orchards include other fun fall activities, such as hayrides and corn mazes. Wondering what to make with your finds? Here are some delicious recipes to try. There’s everything from staples such as applesauce and apple crisp to apple-cheddar soup and caramel apple soft pretzels. Enjoy!

September 28th is National Good Neighbor Day, a day to do our part to build a thriving community. You can observe this day in several ways, such as practicing kind acts such as offering to mow a neighbor’s yard, handing out vegetables from your garden, or hosting a BBQ party or ice cream social.

September is National Life Insurance Awareness Month, a great reminder to review your current plans or explore options if you don’t have life insurance. Be sure to consider these potential factors when determining your need for life insurance:

  • You have a spouse or partner and/or children.
  • You have an aging parent or disabled relative who depends on you for support.
  • Your household depends heavily on your income.
  • Your retirement savings or pension won’t be enough for your spouse or partner to live on should you pass away.
  • You own a business, either solely or with partners.
  • You have a substantial joint financial obligation, such as a personal loan for which another person could be legally responsible after your death.
