Dive into Summer – June 2025

July 01, 2025

Here comes the sun! June is upon us and summer will officially be here before we know it Summer can be a season of spontaneity, from weekend getaways to last-minute concert tickets. However, with these splurges, haphazard spending can quickly negatively impact your budget. A new study revealed that 63% of consumers plan to spend the same, or more, on discretionary purchases this year despite economic uncertainty. If you haven’t already, now is the perfect time to examine your summer budget to help prevent financial stress later. Start by looking at your expenses and seeing if there is anything you can cut back on for the time being. For example, if you are paying for a gym membership, consider canceling it or putting it on pause and exercising outdoors during these warmer months. You can also take advantage of free or inexpensive activities such as visiting art festivals, public beaches, or hiking trails. Remember that making memories doesn’t have to come at a cost to your finances!

Did you know that World Reef Awareness Day is on June 1st? This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the significant role coral reefs play in global ecosystems and the need to protect them for ocean health, coastal protection, and biodiversity. According to scientists, a record-breaking coral bleaching event is currently impacting 84% of the world’s coral reefs, making it the largest mass coral bleaching in history. Here are some ways you can make an impact on their health and conservation:

  • Use reef-safe sunscreen. The next time you are shopping for sunscreen, select a reef-friendly brand that doesn’t include harmful chemicals. Here is a list of options to choose from.
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle. Proper trash disposal can help prevent marine debris from harming corals.
  • Volunteer at a beach or reef cleanup. Conduct some research to see if any beaches you may be visiting this summer participate in general or reef-specific cleanups. Helping to remove trash and debris from coastal areas is a great way to make an impact.

Insurance Awareness Day is June 26th, which recognizes the importance of insurance coverage and promotes public understanding of its benefits. This day reminds us to assess risks, protect our assets, and enjoy peace of mind knowing we have coverage. From car to life insurance, these policies protect us from unexpected situations. Has it been a while since you last reviewed your insurance coverage? Here are some things to consider:

  • As life changes, so should your policy. Has your job change caused you to drive less, or do you have a teenager leaving for college in the fall without a car? Use this time to review your current policies and ensure they align with your situation.
  • Identify gaps in your current plan. Pinpoint deficiencies in your coverage through the DIME formula, which measures necessities for life insurance by accounting for: debts, income replacement, mortgage obligations, and educational costs.
  • Utilize insurance as a tool for asset protection. You can yield protective advantages by incorporating life insurance policies into an investment portfolio.

As you dive into the summer season, this is the perfect time to revisit your financial plan and ensure it aligns with your financial goals and current financial situation. As always, we are here to help you thrive. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns or just want to connect. Enjoy the weather and stay safe!
